5 Pet-Friendly Spots to Hang Out In Texas

    -

For pet-owners and animal lovers alike, Texas is a top destination. There’s no shortage of things to do or places to stay in the Lone Star State and what better way to spend the day, than with man’s best friend by your side.

For those also traveling with their cat in tow, check out HappyCat food.

Take a look at some of the best dog-friendly spots throughout Texas for your next trip across the state line.

    1. Big Bend National Park

Located in West Texas along the border of Mexico, this national park offers miles upon miles of trails and creeks. With over 150 canyons within its borders, you are sure to leave with breathtaking photos. According to the official website, “dogs on a leash no longer than 6 feet are welcome in most areas of the park.”

    2. Memorial Park – Houston

Memorial Park is a 1,500-acre gem located inside Houston, a city known as much for its urban sprawl for its sprawling green spaces. The park spans Buffalo Bayou and features numerous amenities that both humans and their pets will enjoy: hike nature trails through lush forest areas or join one of the many weekend dog runs held throughout the year. Other popular activities include kayaking, fishing, biking, and horseback riding. In addition to having playgrounds, baseball fields, and other athletic facilities, Memorial Park is also home to the Houston Arboretum and Nature Center.

    3. River Legacy Living Science Center – Arlington

Easily accessible from Dallas and Fort Worth, this 121-acre park sits along the banks of the Trinity River. The area includes a dog run for off-leash play and an impressive hiking trail that features a wooden boardwalk over wetlands and a raptor habitat with live owls. If you’re feeling even more adventurous, pay a visit to their two resident alligators – they often sun themselves near boat docks or nearby the center’s pond.

    4. Veterans Memorial Dog Park – Plano

The major attractions at Plano’s 23-acre Veterans Memorial Park include its memorials to local war veterans, its observation towers, and – most importantly for boisterous pooch owners – the park’s off-leash dog area. This facility provides an excellent place for canines to run free while allowing their owners to relax on one of the benches overlooking the play zone or enjoy some shade under nearby trees.

    5. Grapevine Mills Outlet Mall – Grapevine

This massive outlet mall in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex offers humans and their pets plenty of things to do: visit one of the many restaurants throughout the center or take in an IMAX movie at the CineDome screens 3D films. The mall’s extensive walking paths are great for taking your four-legged friends out for strolls.
